Between November 21 and 23, 2022, 17 participants from six Bulgarian cities gathered in the Bacho Kiro hut. Among the participants were biology and veterinary medicine students, nature park staff, speleologists, biodiversity experts, volunteers, and nature enthusiasts.

The course duration was 3 days and included lectures on the biology of bats and methods of their study, a practice of mist-netting, trapping, gathering samples, and acoustic monitoring. The organisers paid particular attention to conservation, good practices, and safety techniques in bat research. The last task was a visit to a cave and monitoring of bats in real conditions. All participants showed great enthusiasm and desire to learn.

The training allowed us to meet wonderful young researchers whom we hope will become our future volunteers and colleagues!
